Gagarin appointed for Arvon’s Yorkshire Writing House

We’re delighted to be working with Arvon to undertake an ambitious reworking of their Yorkshire Writing House, Lumb Bank near Hebden Bridge. The ambition is to reposition Lumb Bank as an engine house for creative writing development in the north of England. 

The house, which once belonged to Ted Hughes, was described by novelist Louise Doughty as ‘the most inspiring place imaginable for writers’.

The project approach will need to pragmatically resolve some key challenges within the buildings and setting whilst ensuring the character of place is preserved and enhanced. We read the initial brief and immediately thought it was a perfect fit for us, so we’re thrilled to have been successful in our pitch.

We’re working closely with Lumb Bank Co-directors Rosie Scott and Helen Meller, to help implement their plans “to make Lumb Bank a cultural hub for the North of England and to spread the Arvon magic across the Calder Valley.”
